South Bay vs. Texas
Preview: South Bay Lakers at Texas Legends
FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — The surging South Bay Lakers visit the struggling Texas Legends in a G League matchup on Friday night at Dr Pepper Arena.
South Bay (18-15) enters on a two-game winning streak and has won seven of its last 10 contests. The Lakers are coming off a 128-116 victory over San Diego on Feb. 11, where a balanced attack saw R.J. Davis score 18 points, Anton Watson add 15 points and seven rebounds, and Drew Timme contribute 20 points and six rebounds.
The Lakers are led by guard R.J. Davis, who has been a consistent force. Over his last 10 games, Davis is averaging 22.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists, including a 45-point, 8-assist performance on Jan. 31 and a triple-double (30 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) on Jan. 29.
Texas (13-22) looks to snap a four-game skid, most recently falling 121-120 in overtime to Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 12. Despite the loss, guard Miles Kelly poured in 31 points. Kelly has been a bright spot, averaging 18.9 points over his last seven games, but the Legends have lost five of those contests.
The teams meet again in Frisco on Saturday, concluding a back-to-back set. South Bay holds a clear advantage in the standings, sitting five games above .500, while Texas seeks to climb out of a nine-game deficit.
Defense may be a key factor; South Bay has scored 124 points or more in four of its last five wins, while Texas has allowed 115 points or more in four consecutive losses.
Friday’s tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.
