Greensboro vs. Wisconsin

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Interstat) — Keyontae Johnson scored 28 points to lead the Greensboro Swarm to a 116-105 victory over the Wisconsin Herd in the NBA G League on Friday night at Oshkosh Arena.

The Swarm, who improved to 25-10, used a dominant performance on the glass and a high-volume offensive attack to overcome a cold shooting night from beyond the arc. Greensboro outrebounded Wisconsin 59-38, including a 17-9 advantage on the offensive boards that led to 21 second-chance points.

Despite making only 3 of 23 attempts from three-point range, the Swarm generated consistent offense by attempting 95 shots from the field and drawing 28 fouls, making 18 of 21 free throws. Their 103 possessions yielded an offensive rating of 112.6. The Herd, who fell to 11-25, were more efficient from deep, hitting 14 of 38, but were hampered by 12 turnovers and the significant rebounding disparity.

Johnson, the 6-foot-4 power forward, added five rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes to pace Greensboro. He was supported by Terrell Brown, who had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Jaylen Sims, who contributed 19 points and eight rebounds. Marcus Garrett posted a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

For Wisconsin, a balanced scoring effort was led by Kira Lewis Jr., who came off the bench to score 18 points. Cormac Ryan added 17 points, while Mark Sears had 16 points and four assists. John Butler, the Herd’s 7-foot-1 center, filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

The most important stretch of the game came in the fourth quarter after Wisconsin had trimmed a double-digit deficit. Leading 90-82 entering the final period, the Swarm saw their lead cut to six points on multiple occasions. With just over nine minutes remaining and the Herd within single digits, Johnson took over. He scored on a driving floating jumper, followed immediately by a steal and a running dunk while drawing a foul. He completed the three-point play, part of a personal 7-0 run in a 90-second span that pushed the Greensboro lead back to 13 points and effectively stifled Wisconsin’s final rally. The Herd would not get closer than nine points the rest of the way.

The two teams will meet again at Oshkosh Arena on Saturday night.
