Long Island vs. Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (Interstat) — The Long Island Nets used a dominant first half to build an insurmountable lead and cruised to a 123-107 victory over the Delaware Blue Coats in a G League matchup Thursday afternoon at 76ers Fieldhouse.

The Nets seized control early, opening a 30-20 lead after the first quarter and extending it to a 66-47 advantage by halftime. Long Island’s offensive execution was sharp from the outset, with the team shooting efficiently and sharing the ball to create high-percentage looks. The Blue Coats, meanwhile, struggled to find a consistent rhythm against a active Nets defense.

Delaware showed more life after the break, playing Long Island nearly even in the third quarter and winning the fourth quarter 36-32, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The Nets’ lead never dipped below double digits in the second half, allowing them to manage the game comfortably down the stretch.

The most important part of the game was Long Island’s explosive second quarter, where they outscored Delaware 36-27 to effectively put the game out of reach. During that period, the Nets’ ball movement and transition play overwhelmed the Blue Coats. A sequence midway through the quarter exemplified their control. After a Malcolm Hill 3-pointer for Delaware cut the lead to 23-20, the Nets responded with a 9-2 run. It was capped by a Nate Williams 3-pointer assisted by Malachi Smith, pushing the lead back to 10 points. Delaware never got the margin back to single digits again. The Nets continued to apply pressure, with Smith scoring on a layup and Williams adding another driving layup to extend the lead to 16 points, forcing a Delaware timeout with 5:18 remaining in the half. This sustained burst demoralized the home team and established the template for the remainder of the contest.

With the win, Long Island improved its season record to 20-16. Delaware fell to 14-19.

The Nets’ balanced attack was led by key performances across the roster. Jeenathan Williams, Malachi Smith and Grant Nelson provided consistent scoring and playmaking, while E.J. Liddell anchored the defense with multiple rebounds and steals. For the Blue Coats, DeAndre Williams of Houston and Charles Bassey fought to keep the team within striking distance, with Dalen Terry also contributing offensively, but the early hole proved too deep.

The game was the third meeting between the teams this season, with Long Island sweeping the previous two matchups in December. The Nets will look to continue their momentum on the road against Birmingham next Thursday. The Blue Coats will aim to regroup at home against Maine on the same night.
