Noblesville vs. Long Island

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Au’Diese Toney scored 30 points and the Noblesville Boom withstood a late rally to edge the Long Island Nets 121-117 in a G League game Tuesday night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

In a rematch of a game Long Island won handily just three days prior, Noblesville evened its season record at 17-17 by avenging that loss. The Nets fell to 19-16.

The most critical sequence came in the final 25 seconds with Noblesville clinging to a two-point lead. After a Long Island timeout, Tyson Etienne was called for a foul, sending Gabe McGlothan to the line. The Nets challenged the call, but the ruling was upheld, costing them their final timeout. McGlothan sank both free throws to put the Boom ahead by four.

Etienne drove for a layup with four seconds left to cut the deficit back to two. Nate Williams then fouled Toney, who missed his first free throw but made the second to establish the final margin. Long Island’s last chance, a desperation 28-foot 3-point attempt by Etienne, missed as time expired.

The game was an offensive showcase from the start, with both teams scoring 36 points in a frenetic first quarter. Noblesville built its largest lead by dominating the second period, outscoring Long Island 35-25 to take a 71-61 advantage into halftime. The Boom shot with remarkable efficiency in the half, making 11 of 23 attempts from 3-point range.

Long Island chipped away in the third quarter, narrowing the gap, and the teams traded baskets throughout a tense fourth quarter. The Nets managed to tie the game at 90 early in the final period, but could never seize the lead.

Toney’s 30-point performance led a balanced Noblesville attack. Jalen Slawson delivered a versatile line with 15 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and five blocks, narrowly missing a triple-double. M.J. Iraldi added 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, while DaJuan Gordon contributed 22 points.

Long Island was led by Jeenathan Williams with 25 points and eight rebounds. Tyson Etienne scored 23 points and Malachi Smith finished with 18 points and 11 assists. Chaney Johnson added 20 points off the bench.

Noblesville’s defense made key plays, recording 10 steals and nine blocks. The Boom also won the battle of efficiency, posting an offensive rating of 122.2 points per 100 possessions compared to Long Island’s 119.9.

Noblesville visits College Park on Thursday. Long Island travels to Delaware on Thursday.
