San Diego vs. Memphis
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (Interstat) — Jahmyl Telfort sank three free throws with one-tenth of a second remaining to lift the San Diego Clippers to a 109-106 victory over the Memphis Hustle in the NBA G League on Sunday at DeSoto Civic Center.
The game was decided in a chaotic final sequence after Memphis guard Nate Hinton hit a running 26-foot jumper with 15 seconds left to give the Hustle a 106-103 lead. Following a San Diego timeout, Clippers guard Jaelen House turned the ball over, and Hinton converted another layup to seemingly seal the game at 108-103 with 19 seconds remaining.
San Diego called another timeout and advanced the ball. Telfort then threw an errant inbound pass that was stolen by Memphis’ DeJon Jarreau. Hinton, however, was fouled on the ensuing fast-break attempt. The play was reviewed, and officials determined the foul occurred before the shot attempt, returning possession to Memphis with 17 seconds left and the lead still at 106-103.
Memphis’ inbound pass was then stolen by House, who missed a potential tying 3-pointer. Telfort secured the offensive rebound and was fouled by Hinton on a put-back attempt with 0.1 seconds on the clock. Telfort calmly made all three free throws to put San Diego ahead 107-106.
After a Memphis timeout, the Hustle turned the ball over on the ensuing inbound play. House was fouled and made two free throws for the final margin. Hinton’s desperation heave at the buzzer was off target.
The frantic finish capped a significant comeback by the Hustle, who trailed by 16 points in the third quarter and were down 93-83 with under eight minutes to play. Memphis used a 23-10 run, fueled by Hinton and Jarreau, to take its late lead.
San Diego built its advantage with a balanced attack and controlled the first three quarters, leading 32-25 after one, 56-50 at halftime and 82-73 heading into the final period.
With the win, San Diego improved to 19-16 and completed a two-game road sweep of Memphis after a 116-105 victory on Friday. The Hustle fell to 10-22.
San Diego is scheduled to play at South Bay on Wednesday. Memphis will host Santa Cruz on Wednesday.
