Westchester vs. Salt Lake City
Preview: Westchester Knicks at Salt Lake City Stars
SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — The Salt Lake City Stars, holding a firm position above .500, will host the struggling Westchester Knicks in a G League matchup Friday night at Bruin Arena.
The game pits two of the league’s most consistent performers against one another, though their teams are on vastly different trajectories. Salt Lake City (19-14) sits in playoff contention, while Westchester (7-24) owns one of the league’s poorest records.
The Stars are looking to rebound from a heartbreaking 140-139 home loss to San Diego on Monday. Oscar Tshiebwe, the team’s anchor, recorded 17 rebounds and 11 points in that defeat. The center has been a force, averaging a double-double and pulling down 20 or more rebounds in three of his last ten games. His matchup inside will be pivotal.
Westchester enters with a rare dose of momentum after a 117-110 road victory at Maine on Sunday, just their second win in the last ten games. Guard Dink Pate powered that effort with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Pate has been a bright spot during the Knicks’ difficult season, scoring 20 or more points in five of his last ten contests, including a 31-point outing on Jan. 9.
In Sunday’s win, Pate was supported by a strong backcourt performance from Bryson Warren, who tallied 28 points and 11 assists. Replicating that balanced offense will be key against a Salt Lake City squad that has shown offensive firepower but is currently on a three-game skid.
The teams will meet again at Bruin Arena on Saturday, concluding a brief two-game set. For Westchester, the weekend offers a chance to build a winning streak. For Salt Lake City, it’s an opportunity to stabilize against the league’s bottom tier before a challenging road trip later this month.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Friday.
