Noblesville vs. Osceola
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Interstat) — In a frantic, high-scoring G League affair that saw 16 lead changes and was not decided until the final possession, the Osceola Magic outlasted the visiting Noblesville Boom 119-114 on Friday night at Silver Spurs Arena.
The game served as a swift and dramatic reversal of fortune from just two nights prior, when Noblesville had defeated Osceola on the same floor. This time, the Magic withstood a relentless Boom offensive attack and a late flurry to even the back-to-back set and improve their season record to 22-10. Noblesville fell to .500 at 16-16.
The most critical phase of the contest unfolded in the game’s final five minutes. After Noblesville’s Taelon Peter converted a running layup to tie the score at 111 with 3:35 remaining, the Magic seized control with an 8-0 run. The surge was fueled by Lester Quinones, who hit a 3-pointer, and Justin Minaya, who followed with another triple off an Alex Morales assist. Just over a minute later, Quinones drilled another long-range shot, giving Osceola a 109-103 lead and forcing a Noblesville timeout with 4:53 left.
Noblesville, which had erased a double-digit first-half deficit, refused to capitulate. A 3-pointer from Jalen Slawson and two Cameron Hildreth free throws brought the Boom within two points at 115-113 with 1:49 to play. The Boom then had multiple opportunities to tie or take the lead in the final minute. However, a missed tip shot by Slawson and a crucial defensive stop by Osceola on Noblesville’s final two possessions sealed the outcome.
With 11 seconds left and Osceola leading 117-114, Slawson was fouled on a made basket but assessed a technical foul immediately after. Quinones missed the ensuing technical free throw, but then calmly sank two free throws on the personal foul to extend the lead to 119-114. Noblesville’s last-gasp attempts from beyond the arc by Peter and Hildreth were off the mark in the final five seconds.
The game was a tale of contrasting halves and explosive quarters. Osceola built an early advantage, leading 62-52 at halftime behind 31-point quarters in both the first and second periods. Noblesville responded with a dominant 34-point third quarter, spearheaded by its interior play and ball movement, to take an 86-81 lead into the final frame. The Magic answered with their best offensive quarter of the night, pouring in 38 points in the fourth, with Quinones and Jarron Cumberland providing key scoring punches down the stretch.
Osceola’s backcourt duo of Quinones and Reece Beekman facilitated much of the offense, while Morales provided timely scoring and defense. For Noblesville, Slawson was a constant force around the basket and as a distributor, while Hildreth and Peter orchestrated the backcourt. Gabe McGlothan gave the Boom significant minutes off the bench with his scoring and rebounding.
The win allowed Osceola to split the brief two-game homestand against Noblesville and maintain a strong position in the league standings. The Boom continue a road trip with two games at Long Island beginning Sunday, while the Magic do not play again until a visit to Capital City on Feb. 19.
