Texas vs. Austin
Preview: Texas Legends at Austin Spurs
SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The surging Austin Spurs will host the struggling Texas Legends in a G League Western Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Frost Bank Center.
The Spurs (21-8) sit among the league’s elite and have won eight of their last 11 games. Their most recent outing was a 119-115 home loss to Stockton on Jan. 29, snapping a two-game win streak. Wing Donovan Williams, a player to watch, leads a balanced Austin attack and is averaging 17.1 points per game. He scored 19 points with six rebounds in the loss to Stockton.
The Legends (13-18) have lost three of their last four and are coming off a 125-109 defeat to Sioux Falls on Sunday. Their recent struggles are in stark contrast to a strong stretch in early January. Forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl has been a consistent bright spot, posting eight double-doubles in his last nine games. He is averaging 19.9 points and 11.6 rebounds over that dominant span, including a 21-point, 11-rebound performance in Sunday’s loss.
The intrastate series has been high-scoring and split this season. The teams last met in December, with the Legends winning 126-122 at home on Dec. 13, one afternoon after the Spurs claimed a 138-132 road victory.
Austin’s success has been built on consistency, while Texas has relied on Robinson-Earl’s interior presence and occasional explosive performances from guards like Dalano Banton, who had 22 points against Sioux Falls.
Following this game, the Legends begin a two-game homestand against Stockton on Friday. The Spurs hit the road for a game at Rio Grande Valley on Saturday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday.
