Rip City vs. Mexico City
RIP CITY REMIX, MEXICO CITY CAPITANES SET FOR SHOWDOWN
CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (Interstat) — A pivotal G League Western Conference clash is set for Sunday when the Rip City Remix visit the Mexico City Capitanes at Estadio Azteca.
Both teams enter the contest with nearly identical records and recent momentum. The visiting Remix (18-13) have won two straight, including a 126-119 victory over Texas on Wednesday. The Capitanes (17-13), however, look to rebound after back-to-back road losses at Iowa and South Bay.
A key matchup will feature two of the league’s hottest performers. Rip City center Alex Reese is coming off a dominant stretch, averaging 21.3 points and 6.8 rebounds over his last four games. He posted 23 points and nine rebounds in Wednesday’s win.
For Mexico City, guard Wade Taylor has been a consistent catalyst, dishing 5.9 assists per game over his last nine contests. He scored 21 points with five assists in Tuesday’s loss to Iowa.
The Remix have found success recently behind Reese and a balanced attack. In their last win, Sean Pedulla added 24 points and seven assists, while Blake Hinson recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Mexico City’s strength lies in its playmaking and home-court advantage at the famed Azteca. Before their current skid, the Capitanes had won seven of eight games, a stretch where Taylor averaged 7.4 assists per game.
This game is the first of a quick home-and-home set between the teams, who will meet again in Mexico City on Tuesday. The outcome could shift the standings in a tightly packed conference race.
Sunday’s tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. local time.
