Delaware vs. Valley

TEMPE, Ariz. (Interstat) — The Delaware Blue Coats survived a furious fourth-quarter rally and a 34-point performance from Jaden Shackelford to edge the Valley Suns 111-107 in a G League contest Sunday at Mullett Arena.

Delaware built a commanding 15-point lead entering the final period, only to see Valley erupt for 37 points in the fourth quarter. The Suns’ comeback, fueled by Shackelford’s sharpshooting, turned a potential blowout into a tense final minute.

The most critical sequence came with just over five seconds remaining and Delaware clinging to a 108-107 lead. After Valley’s Koby Brea sank two free throws to pull the Suns within one, Delaware’s Malcolm Hill was fouled. Hill missed his first free throw but calmly made the second to push the lead back to two.

On the ensuing possession, Valley’s Rasheer Fleming missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer. Khaman Maluach grabbed the offensive rebound but missed a putback attempt as time expired, allowing Delaware to escape with the victory.

The Blue Coats were led by a dominant frontcourt duo. Charles Bassey posted 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Johni Broome added 27 points and 11 rebounds. MarJon Beauchamp contributed 18 points and six assists for Delaware, which improved to 12-18.

Shackelford’s game-high 34 points for Valley came on a flurry of late 3-pointers that brought the Suns back from a double-digit deficit. Brea finished with 15 points, and Maluach had 10 points and 14 rebounds. The loss dropped Valley to 8-23.

Delaware controlled the game for three quarters, leveraging a significant rebounding advantage, 57-48, and capitalizing on Valley’s frigid 3-point shooting. The Suns shot just 10 for 51 from beyond the arc. Despite committing 20 turnovers, the Blue Coats’ interior presence and more efficient offense proved decisive until the frantic final period.

The game was a rematch of a Friday contest, also won by Delaware 124-115. The Blue Coats will host Wisconsin on Thursday. The Suns travel to face Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday.
