Westchester vs. Maine

PORTLAND, Maine (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal of recent form and preseason projections, the last-place Westchester Knicks snapped a three-game losing streak to the Maine Celtics with a 117-110 victory in a G League contest Sunday at the Portland Exposition Building.

The win, just one day after falling to the same Celtics team by 10 points, marked a significant upset. Interstat’s ELO system had given the Celtics an 89.2 percent probability to win. Westchester improved its season record to 7-24, while Maine dropped to 19-13.

The game’s most critical phase came in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, as the Knicks withstood a furious Celtics rally to secure the win. After leading for much of the afternoon, Westchester saw its advantage threatened when Maine’s Hayden Gray hit a 27-foot 3-pointer with 3:42 remaining, capping a quick 7-0 run that cut the Knicks’ lead to 96-93.

Westchester called a timeout to stem the tide and responded decisively. Bryson Warren, who was instrumental throughout, sank a 25-foot 3-pointer out of the break. Following a defensive stop, Warren struck again from deep, this time off an assist from Dink Pate, pushing the lead back to nine points with 2:58 left.

Maine, however, refused to capitulate. The Celtics chipped away, with Max Shulga and Tosan Evbuomwan making key baskets. Ron Harper’s 32-foot 3-pointer with 14 seconds left brought Maine within a single possession at 109-106. The Knicks then relied on Pate’s composure at the free-throw line, where he made four consecutive attempts in the final 15 seconds to ice the game. Isaiah Roby added two more free throws with two seconds remaining for the final margin.

The Knicks built their victory on consistent offensive execution across all four quarters, scoring 23, 29, 32 and 33 points, respectively. Maine kept pace early, trailing by just two points after the first quarter, but a 29-point second quarter gave Westchester a 52-47 halftime lead. The Knicks extended their advantage with a 32-point third quarter, entering the final period up 84-76, a cushion that proved necessary to survive Maine’s 34-point fourth-quarter outburst.

Westchester’s backcourt of Bryson Warren and Dink Pate provided relentless offensive pressure, while Trey Jemison anchored the interior. For Maine, Ron Harper led the late charge with a series of difficult shots, and Hayden Gray provided key perimeter scoring off the bench.

The Knicks will look to build on the road victory as they begin a western road trip, starting with a pair of games against the Salt Lake City Stars on Feb. 6 and 7. The Celtics, meanwhile, embark on a three-game road trip beginning in Sioux Falls on Wednesday.
