College Park vs. San Diego
Preview: College Park Skyhawks at San Diego Clippers
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The San Diego Clippers will look to halt a two-game slide and get back to .500 when they host the struggling College Park Skyhawks in a G League matchup Saturday night at Frontwave Arena.
The Clippers (14-15) return home after dropping consecutive games to the Oklahoma City Blue last weekend. Forward Kobe Brown has been a consistent performer, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in those two losses. San Diego’s season has been marked by inconsistency, alternating wins and losses for much of January.
They face a Skyhawks team mired in a deeper slump. College Park (8-20) has lost four straight and eight of its last ten games. Its most recent outing was a 121-107 road loss to the South Bay Lakers on Tuesday.
The Skyhawks’ bright spot has been forward Asa Newell, who enters as the player to watch. Newell is coming off a 26-point, six-rebound performance against South Bay and a dominant 29-point, 12-rebound, seven-assist effort in a loss to Maine on Jan. 21. Containing him will be a key focus for the Clippers’ defense.
In the backcourt, College Park’s RayJ Dennis is also rolling, coming off a 24-point, 10-assist double-double against the Lakers.
This game is the second of a back-to-back set between the teams at Frontwave Arena, following a scheduled meeting Friday night. That result could influence the tenor of Saturday’s contest, as both clubs seek momentum before embarking on lengthy road trips.
Following this game, the Clippers begin a six-game road swing starting Monday in Salt Lake City. The Skyhawks continue a difficult stretch, heading home to face Cleveland on Monday before playing eight of their next ten on the road.
Saturday’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST at Frontwave Arena in San Diego.
