Wisconsin vs. Capital City
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Sharife Cooper scored 37 points and dished out nine assists to lead the Capital City Go-Go to a 110-98 victory over the Wisconsin Herd in a G League game Saturday night at CareFirst Arena.
The game, a swift reversal from the previous night’s result where Wisconsin won by 25 points, was defined by Capital City’s explosive start and sustained offensive efficiency. The Go-Go never trailed, opening the game on a 14-4 run and leading 32-24 after the first quarter. Cooper was the catalyst, scoring 16 points in the opening period and setting an early tone that Wisconsin could not overcome.
Capital City maintained a double-digit lead for much of the contest, weathering several Wisconsin pushes. The Herd cut the deficit to nine points late in the third quarter, but the Go-Go responded with a 10-2 run to close the period, taking an 89-79 lead into the fourth. Wisconsin made one final charge, closing to within six points at 97-91 with just over seven minutes remaining. However, Capital City answered with a decisive 13-2 run over the next four minutes, capped by a Sharife Cooper fadeaway jumper and a three-pointer, to seal the victory at 110-99 with 1:12 left.
The most important part of the game was Capital City’s immediate and forceful response to their blowout loss just 24 hours earlier. From the opening tip, the Go-Go played with heightened intensity, particularly on offense, where they shot 54.2% from the field and posted an offensive rating of 117.3. This sharp start established control and forced Wisconsin to play from behind for the entire 48 minutes, a deficit the Herd’s inconsistent shooting—39 of 86 from the field and 15 of 45 from three-point range—could not erase.
Cooper’s masterful performance led five Go-Go players in double figures. Alondes Williams added 18 points, Akoldah Gak had 16 points and seven rebounds, Keshon Gilbert scored 14, and Leaky Black finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
For Wisconsin, which fell to 11-20, Stevie Thompson led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds. Mark Sears also scored 19 points, Cormac Ryan added 16, and John Butler contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Victor Oladipo, in a supporting role, had 11 points and five assists.
Capital City improved to 15-14 with the win, outrebounding Wisconsin 45-36 and recording seven blocked shots. Both teams committed 15 turnovers. The Go-Go next host the South Bay Lakers on Wednesday, while the Herd travel to face the Delaware Blue Coats on Thursday.
