Raptors 905 vs. Osceola
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Osceola Magic survived a furious start from the league-leading Raptors 905 and a frantic final sequence, edging the visitors 112-109 in a G League matchup Monday night at Silver Spurs Arena.
In a game defined by runs, the Magic overcame an early 15-point deficit and then held off a late rally to secure the victory, improving their record to 18-9. The Raptors 905, who entered with the best record in the league at 24-5, saw a two-game win streak snapped in a contest that featured 14 lead changes and was not decided until the final second.
The most critical phase of the game unfolded in the closing 6.8 seconds. With Osceola leading 110-109, Raptors 905 guard Tyreke Key drove for a layup that was initially ruled good, but was overturned upon a coach’s challenge that confirmed a defensive goaltending violation on Osceola’s Phillip Wheeler. The ruling put the score at 111-110 in favor of the Magic.
On the ensuing inbounds play, Key fouled Osceola’s Lester Quinones, who calmly sank both free throws to extend the lead to three points. After a Raptors 905 timeout, A.J. Hoggard’s inbound pass sailed out of bounds, turning the ball back over to Osceola with 0.10 seconds left. Tyson Degenhart then fouled Quinones, who again made both free throws to seal the 112-109 final. Jarkel Joiner’s layup at the buzzer provided the final margin.
The game began at a blistering pace, heavily favoring the visitors. The Raptors 905 erupted for 67 points in the first half, shooting efficiently from deep and building a lead as large as 15 points in the second quarter. Their ball movement and transition play overwhelmed the Magic early, as they took a 67-54 advantage into halftime.
Osceola responded with a dominant third quarter, outscoring Raptors 905 31-21. The Magic tightened their defense, forcing several turnovers and capitalizing on a series of offensive rebounds and second-chance points. A key 11-0 run midway through the period, fueled by Reece Beekman and Alex Morales, erased the deficit and gave Osceola a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. The Magic carried an 85-78 lead into the fourth quarter.
The final period was a tense back-and-forth affair. The Raptors 905 chipped away, closing to within a single point on multiple occasions, but could never regain the lead. Critical plays down the stretch included a driving layup by Beekman, a steal and assist by Javonte Smart on a Quinones fast-break score, and a crucial three-pointer from Smart with 2:03 remaining that pushed the Osceola lead to 100-95.
Quinones led all scorers and was instrumental in the closing moments, while Beekman orchestrated the offense throughout the second half. For the Raptors 905, Quincy Guerrier provided consistent interior scoring and rebounding, and Key was a key contributor, especially during the team’s early surge and late push.
The win gives Osceola momentum heading into a quick rematch with the same opponent scheduled for Wednesday night at Silver Spurs Arena. The loss is just the fifth of the season for Raptors 905, who continue a Florida road trip with the second half of the back-to-back.
