Motor City vs. Long Island

Motor City Cruise, Long Island Nets Set for G League Showdown

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Interstat) — A pair of teams trending in opposite directions will meet Monday when the Long Island Nets host the Motor City Cruise in a G League matchup at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Nets (15-13) enter on a positive note, having won three of their last four games, including a 109-93 victory over Raptors 905 on Friday. The Cruise (13-15), meanwhile, have dropped seven of their last ten but are coming off a high-scoring 133-119 road win at Delaware on Saturday.

Monday’s contest will feature two of the league’s recent standout performers. For Motor City, forward Drew Peterson has been a consistent catalyst during the team’s sporadic success. Over his last three games, Peterson is averaging 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting efficiently. His all-around play will be key for the Cruise offense.

Long Island will counter with center Grant Nelson, who is coming off a dominant 20-point, six-rebound performance in just 18 minutes against Raptors 905. Nelson has provided explosive scoring bursts for the Nets, scoring 20 or more points in two of his last five appearances despite limited minutes.

The Nets’ recent success has been bolstered by balanced contributions. In their last win, guard Malachi Smith nearly recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, while forward Chaney Johnson added 16 points.

Motor City will look to build momentum from its offensive explosion in Delaware and break a pattern of inconsistency. The Cruise have shown they can score in bunches, surpassing 125 points in three of their last five wins, but have struggled to maintain defensive intensity during their losses.

This game is the first of a quick two-game set between the teams at the Coliseum, with a rematch scheduled for Wednesday. Monday’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
