Memphis vs. Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — The Iowa Wolves unleashed a historic third-quarter offensive explosion to overcome a halftime deficit and defeat the Memphis Hustle 127-109 in a G League game Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
The game turned decisively in the third period, as the Wolves outscored the Hustle 47-28, transforming a 54-53 halftime lead into a commanding 101-81 advantage entering the final quarter. The 47-point quarter was the pivotal stretch of the contest, fueled by a blistering shooting display and a cascade of Memphis turnovers.
Iowa’s offensive efficiency was staggering. The Wolves shot 57.5% from the field, making 46 of 80 attempts, and were an even more impressive 50% from three-point range, connecting on 16 of 32. They also capitalized at the free-throw line, making 13 of 16. Memphis, by contrast, shot 48.4% from the field but struggled from deep, hitting only 10 of 31 three-point attempts, and were a dismal 6 of 13 from the foul line.
The Wolves’ offensive rating of 130.1 points per 100 possessions dwarfed the Hustle’s 109.9, underscoring the efficiency gap. Iowa also dominated the glass, outrebounding Memphis 46-33.
Jules Bernard led the Wolves with a masterful performance, scoring 28 points and dishing out 10 assists. His playmaking was central to Iowa’s third-quarter surge. Enrique Freeman added a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Nate Santos contributed 19 points. Rocco Zikarsky provided a strong interior presence with 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
For Memphis, Tyler Burton poured in a game-high 37 points on 15-of-28 shooting. Nate Hinton matched Bernard’s 28 points and added seven rebounds. Jahmai Mashack facilitated the offense with 15 points and 10 assists.
The first half was a tightly contested affair, with Memphis leading 19-23 after one quarter before Iowa took a slim one-point lead into the break. The Hustle’s offense, however, could not withstand the Wolves’ onslaught after halftime, as Iowa’s ball movement and shot-making created an insurmountable gap.
With the win, Iowa improved its season record to 16-12. Memphis fell to 9-18 with the loss, continuing a difficult stretch in their schedule.
Iowa is next scheduled to host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Monday. Memphis will return home to face the Stockton Kings, also on Monday.
