Capital City vs. Austin

LEANDER, Texas (Interstat) — The Capital City Go-Go avenged a loss from the previous night with a decisive 112-96 victory over the Austin Spurs in a G League contest Friday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Capital City, the visiting team, improved to 14-13 with the win, while the Western Conference-leading Spurs fell to 19-7. The outcome defied statistical expectations, as analytics provider Interstat’s ELO system had given Austin a 79.4% probability of winning, especially after the Spurs had defeated the Go-Go 110-103 just 24 hours earlier.

The most important part of the game was Capital City’s dominant second-quarter surge, which established a lead the Spurs could never overcome. After a tightly contested first quarter that ended with Austin ahead 24-23, the Go-Go erupted for 36 points in the second period. Capital City’s offense found a consistent rhythm, attacking the basket and capitalizing on transition opportunities to outscore Austin by 16 points in the quarter. That explosion sent the Go-Go into halftime with a commanding 59-52 advantage, a margin that provided a cushion for the remainder of the game.

Austin struggled to mount a sustained comeback. The Spurs cut the deficit to seven points on several occasions in the third quarter, but each time Capital City answered with a scoring run to push the lead back to double digits. The Go-Go’s defense was disruptive throughout, generating steals and converting them into easy baskets at the other end.

Capital City maintained its offensive balance across all four quarters, scoring 24 points in the third and closing with 29 in the fourth to seal the victory. Austin, meanwhile, was held to 21 points in the third and 23 in the final period, unable to match the Go-Go’s scoring pace.

The win was a collective effort for Capital City, with multiple players contributing key plays. The team’s ball movement and defensive intensity during the pivotal second-quarter run were the defining factors, allowing them to control the tempo and build an insurmountable lead against a formidable opponent on its home floor.

Both teams continue their schedules this weekend. Austin travels to face the Valley Suns on Sunday, while Capital City returns home to host the Wisconsin Herd next Friday.
