Cleveland vs. Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Interstat) — The Cleveland Charge established control early and never relented, cruising to a 125-105 victory over the Grand Rapids Gold in a G League game Tuesday night at Van Andel Arena.

The most important segment of the game was its outset, as Cleveland’s aggressive start built an insurmountable cushion. The Charge opened the game on a 14-0 run, capitalizing on a series of sloppy Grand Rapids turnovers and missed shots. The Gold did not score until a Coleman Hawkins 3-pointer more than three minutes into the contest.

That initial burst set the tone for the entire evening. Cleveland led 31-21 after the first quarter and maintained a double-digit advantage for nearly the entirety of the game. The Charge’s lead ballooned to 20 points in the second quarter and reached a game-high 24 points in the fourth.

Cleveland’s offensive execution was consistent throughout, scoring at least 30 points in each quarter. The Charge defense was equally impactful, forcing 27 Grand Rapids turnovers, which led to 34 Cleveland points. The Gold, meanwhile, managed only 10 points off 14 Charge turnovers.

Luke Travers led a balanced Cleveland attack with a versatile performance, contributing significantly as a playmaker and defender. Norchad Omier of Bluefields, Nicaragua, provided a strong interior presence. Tristan Enaruna and Chris Livingston of Akron, Ohio, also made key contributions for the Charge.

For Grand Rapids, Dane Goodwin provided scoring punch, while Curtis Jones facilitated the offense. Coleman Hawkins and Terrence Hargrove of East St. Louis, Illinois, added to the Gold’s effort, but the team could not overcome its disastrous start and persistent ball-handling issues.

The win improves Cleveland’s record to 14-10, while Grand Rapids falls to 15-12. The teams have now split their four meetings this season, with the road team winning each contest. Cleveland’s victory defied the pregame statistical projection, which gave Grand Rapids a 52.7% probability to win.

Cleveland next travels to face Birmingham on Thursday, while Grand Rapids visits Motor City on the same night.
