Cleveland vs. Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout Sunday at Van Andel Arena, the Cleveland Charge overcame a torrid start by the Grand Rapids Gold and a massive early deficit to secure a 132-126 victory.

The game turned decisively in a blistering third quarter, which proved to be the most important stretch of the contest. After trailing by 18 points following a first quarter where Grand Rapids scored 36, the Charge erupted for 47 points in the third period. That offensive explosion completely flipped the momentum, transforming an 11-point halftime deficit into a lead Cleveland would not relinquish.

Grand Rapids dominated the opening frame, racing out to a 36-18 lead behind efficient inside play from center Moses Brown and sharp shooting from guard Dane Goodwin. The Gold maintained control through much of the second quarter, leading 61-50 at halftime. The Charge’s comeback began in earnest after the break, fueled by a combination of relentless offense and key defensive stops. Cleveland’s attack was balanced and persistent, chipping away at the lead until seizing control.

Cleveland’s Norchad Omier, a center from Bluefields, Nicaragua, was instrumental in the turnaround, providing interior defense and scoring. Guard Killian Hayes orchestrated the offense, while forwards Riley Minix and Luke Travers contributed key baskets and playmaking. For Grand Rapids, Brown was a force inside, and Goodwin led a perimeter attack that kept the game close until the final seconds.

Despite the Charge’s third-quarter surge, the Gold refused to fade. The teams traded baskets throughout a frantic fourth quarter that saw Cleveland score 42 points and Grand Rapids 32. The Gold closed to within three points in the final minute after a deep 3-pointer by Coleman Hawkins, but Cleveland sealed the win at the free-throw line.

The victory improved Cleveland’s season record to 13-10, while Grand Rapids fell to 15-11. The two teams will meet again at Van Andel Arena on Tuesday. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Grand Rapids had been projected with a 58.7% probability to win Sunday’s game.
