Maine vs. College Park
Preview: Maine Celtics at College Park Skyhawks
ATLANTA (Interstat) — The surging Maine Celtics visit the struggling College Park Skyhawks in a G League matchup Sunday at Gateway Center Arena.
Maine (15-9) enters on a five-game winning streak, its latest a 114-106 road victory over Wisconsin on Wednesday. The Celtics have dominated the season series, sweeping a two-game set from College Park in early December by an average margin of 22.5 points.
The Skyhawks (8-17) look to halt a two-game skid after a high-scoring 155-140 loss to Delaware on Friday. They have lost 10 of their last 13 games overall.
A key matchup will feature two of the league’s top performers. Maine’s Kendall Brown, a 6-foot-8 guard, is averaging 17.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists over his last 10 games. He scored 25 points in Wednesday’s win. For College Park, center Malik Williams has been a force, posting six double-doubles in his last nine contests. He is averaging 18.2 points and 12.2 rebounds over that span, including a 25-point, 19-rebound effort in a win over Delaware on Jan. 14.
The Celtics’ recent success has been fueled by balance. In the win over Wisconsin, Jalen Bridges added 22 points and Hayden Gray dished out nine assists alongside Brown’s 25 points.
College Park’s defense, allowing a league-worst 124.3 points per game in their last three outings, will be tested by a Maine offense averaging 112.8 points during its win streak.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a Maine victory, 121-100.
This is the first of a quick home-and-home set between the teams, who will meet again in College Park on Wednesday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST Sunday.
