Raptors 905 vs. Capital City
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — In a tense G League showdown that came down to the final possession, the Capital City Go-Go edged the visiting Raptors 905 101-99 on Saturday night at CareFirst Arena, handing the league-leading Raptors just their third loss of the season.
The game, a rematch from a Capital City loss just two nights prior, was decided in the closing seconds. With the score tied at 99 and one second remaining, Capital City’s Alondes Williams was fouled and made the first of two free throws to put the Go-Go ahead. After he missed the second, Raptors 905 secured the rebound and called a timeout with 0.6 seconds left. Quincy Guerrier’s desperation alley-oop attempt at the buzzer missed, sealing the victory for the home team.
The most critical sequence of the game unfolded in the final minute. Trailing 98-96, Capital City’s Sharife Cooper, the night’s standout performer, hit a step-back jumper with 41 seconds left to tie the game at 98. On the ensuing Raptors possession, David Roddy’s tip-in again put Raptors 905 ahead 99-98 with 1:04 remaining. Cooper answered immediately, driving for a layup to give Capital City a 100-99 lead with 41 seconds on the clock. Raptors 905 had two chances to reclaim the lead, but Tyreke Key missed a three-pointer and, after an offensive rebound, Olivier Sarr split a pair of free throws to tie the game at 100 with 29 seconds left, setting the stage for the decisive foul on Williams.
Cooper was instrumental in the win, scoring a game-high 30 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter. His clutch shooting down the stretch overcame a balanced Raptors 905 attack. Key led Raptors 905 with 19 points, while A.J. Hoggard added 15 points and eight assists. Olivier Sarr posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds for the visitors.
Capital City set the tone early, leading 28-24 after the first quarter and extending its advantage to 56-45 by halftime. Raptors 905, which entered the game with a remarkable 24-2 record, mounted a strong second-half comeback. They outscored the Go-Go 27-22 in the third quarter to narrow the gap and continued to chip away in the fourth, ultimately tying the game before falling short.
The win improved Capital City’s record to 12-12, while Raptors 905 fell to 24-3. The game was the fourth meeting between the teams this season, with Raptors 905 having won the previous three.
Capital City travels to face the Texas Legends on Monday. Raptors 905 continues its road trip at Long Island on Friday.
