Greensboro vs. Westchester
Preview: Greensboro Swarm at Westchester Knicks
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (Interstat) — A matchup of teams at opposite ends of the NBA G League standings unfolds Thursday when the Greensboro Swarm visit the Westchester Knicks.
The Swarm (16-7) arrive at Westchester County Center as one of the league’s top teams, while the Knicks (4-19) seek to halt a prolonged slump. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
Greensboro has dominated the season series, winning both prior meetings in December by scores of 118-91 and 112-106. Interstat’s game simulator projects another lopsided result, forecasting a 124-100 Swarm victory.
The Swarm’s success is fueled by balance and playmaking, led by guard K.J. Simpson. Over his last five games, Simpson has averaged 14.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.4 assists, orchestrating an offense that scored 149 points in a win over Grand Rapids on Jan. 5. Greensboro is 3-2 in its last five, with the losses coming in a tight two-game road set against Rio Grande Valley last weekend.
Westchester counters with high-volume scorer Donovan Williams, who has been a bright spot during a difficult stretch. The Knicks have lost 10 of their last 11 games, with Williams averaging 28.8 points over his last five outings. He poured in 33 and 31 points, respectively, in back-to-back losses to Stockton last week. Support has been inconsistent, however, as evidenced by a 139-90 home loss to Capital City on New Year’s Day.
For Westchester, forward Isaiah Roby provides a secondary threat, coming off a 17-point, 9-rebound performance in the Jan. 10 loss. Greensboro’s Eric Dixon, who scored 19 points in that same Saturday game, offers interior scoring alongside Simpson’s perimeter game.
The schedule offers little respite for Westchester after this contest, as the team embarks on a six-game road trip starting Saturday in Wisconsin. Greensboro returns home for a game against Osceola on Saturday before hitting the road again.
Thursday’s game presents a clear contrast: Greensboro’s cohesive, winning formula against Westchester’s individual brilliance amid team struggles.
