Grand Rapids vs. Noblesville

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — Curtis Jones scored 26 points and the Grand Rapids Gold used a dominant third quarter to pull away from the Noblesville Boom for a 102-92 victory in the NBA G League on Thursday night at the Arena at Innovation Mile.

The game turned decisively in the third period. After trailing by two at halftime, the Gold outscored the Boom 31-16 in the frame, fueled by defensive intensity and timely shooting. Grand Rapids forced seven Noblesville turnovers in the quarter, converting them into easy transition opportunities to build a double-digit lead it would not relinquish.

Jones, the game’s top performer, added nine rebounds and six assists to his scoring total. His back-to-back three-pointers late in the third quarter, including a 32-foot heave at the buzzer, capped the surge and extended the Gold’s lead to 12 points entering the fourth. Javante McCoy provided crucial support with 19 points, while Justyn Hamilton posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with four blocked shots.

Noblesville was led by Ethan Thompson’s 25 points and eight rebounds. Kam Jones finished with 14 points and 10 assists, and Taelon Peter added 14 points. The Boom struggled from the field, shooting just 35 of 89 overall and 11 of 39 from three-point range.

The first half was a tightly contested affair featuring 10 lead changes and five ties. Noblesville led 47-45 at the break after Taelon Peter connected on a 31-foot three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer. The Boom’s offense stalled completely after intermission, managing only five field goals in the third quarter as Grand Rapids seized control.

The Gold’s defense was a constant factor, generating 18 turnovers which led to 24 points. Grand Rapids also held a slight edge on the glass, 55-54, and recorded nine steals and four blocks.

With the win, Grand Rapids improved to 15-10 on the season, while Noblesville fell to 9-15. The victory also avenged a 149-145 overtime loss the Gold suffered in Noblesville on Dec. 28.

Grand Rapids hosts Cleveland on Sunday, while Noblesville welcomes Delaware to town the same day.
