Grand Rapids vs. Noblesville

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — A surging Grand Rapids Gold looks to continue its climb up the G League standings when it visits the struggling Noblesville Boom on Thursday night at the Arena at Innovation Mile.

The Gold (14-10) have dropped three of their last four but remain in the upper tier of the league. They will lean on versatile forward Coleman Hawkins, who is coming off a 19-point, nine-rebound performance in a loss to Wisconsin on Sunday. Hawkins has been a statistical force, recording a triple-double (14 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists) in a win over College Park on Jan. 8.

Noblesville (9-14) seeks consistency after a 128-120 road win at Windy City last Sunday snapped a three-game skid. Guard Ethan Thompson powered that victory with a season-high 36 points, adding six assists and five rebounds. Thompson’s scoring outburst provides a hopeful sign for a Boom offense that has struggled at times this season.

This matchup is a quick rematch of a thrilling overtime contest just over two weeks ago. On Dec. 28, the Boom outlasted the Gold 149-145 in a high-scoring affair here in Noblesville. The season series is tied 1-1, with Grand Rapids winning the first meeting 120-109 on Nov. 8.

The Boom will need another big night from Thompson and center Jalen Slawson, who had 27 points and nine rebounds against Windy City, to counter Grand Rapids’ balance. Beyond Hawkins, guard Curtis Jones averages 24 points and seven assists, providing a potent backcourt threat.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday. Following this game, Grand Rapids returns home to host Cleveland on Sunday, while Noblesville continues a brief homestand against Delaware.
