Texas vs. Memphis
G League Showdown Features Surging Legends, Struggling Hustle
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (Interstat) — The Texas Legends, riding a two-game winning streak, visit the slumping Memphis Hustle on Wednesday night in a Western Conference G League matchup at the DeSoto Civic Center.
Texas (11-13) arrives after a dramatic 114-112 home victory over Cleveland on Sunday, powered by a standout performance from guard Sheldon Edwards. The Legends have won three of their last five.
Memphis (8-13) seeks to halt a five-game skid, its most recent a 113-101 road loss to South Bay on Jan. 6. The Hustle have not won since a one-point victory over Valley on Dec. 27.
A key matchup will feature Texas’s Edwards against Memphis guard Jahmai Mashack. Edwards is coming off a career night, scoring 33 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 39 minutes against Cleveland. Over his last 10 games, he has averaged 17.1 points.
Mashack has been a bright spot for Memphis during its losing streak, averaging 12.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists over his last seven contests. He posted 18 points and eight assists in the loss to South Bay.
In the teams’ only previous meeting this season, Texas defeated Memphis 118-105 on Nov. 11 in Frisco, Texas.
The Legends’ recent success has been bolstered by center Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, who recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds Sunday, and forward Matt Cross, who added 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Memphis will look for production from Charlie Brown Jr., who scored 14 points against South Bay, and center Jordan Minor, who had 16 points in that game on 7-of-8 shooting.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a Texas victory, 121-100.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. Following the game, Memphis begins a four-game road trip at Rip City on Sunday. Texas returns home to host Capital City on Monday.
