Maine vs. Wisconsin

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Interstat) — The Maine Celtics used a dominant fourth-quarter defensive performance to overcome a high-powered Wisconsin Herd attack and secure a 114-106 victory in the NBA G League on Wednesday night at Oshkosh Arena.

In a game defined by offensive efficiency, the Celtics clamped down when it mattered most, holding the Herd to just 15 points in the final period to erase a five-point deficit entering the quarter. Maine outscored Wisconsin 29-15 over the final 12 minutes to turn a 91-85 hole into an eight-point win.

The most important part of the game was Maine’s decisive 15-2 run midway through the fourth quarter. Trailing 98-93 with just over seven minutes to play, the Celtics unleashed a barrage of defensive stops and transition scores. The run was fueled by Kendall Brown, who scored six points during the stretch, including a steal and breakaway dunk that forced a Wisconsin timeout with 4:49 remaining and gave Maine a 108-103 lead it would not relinquish.

Brown, a shooting guard from Cottage Grove, Minnesota, was the game’s top star, finishing with 25 points, six rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes. His defensive intensity was pivotal, contributing to a game-high four steals, three of which came in the fourth quarter as Maine overwhelmed the Herd’s ball handlers.

The contest was an offensive showcase for three quarters, with both teams shooting above 50% from the field and trading leads. Wisconsin’s Cormac Ryan led all scorers with 25 points and added seven assists, while Stevie Thompson posted a double-double for the Herd with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Victor Oladipo, playing for Wisconsin, scored 18 points.

Maine countered with balanced scoring behind Brown. Jalen Bridges scored 22 points, Tosan Evbuomwan added 21 points, four rebounds and four assists, and point guard Hayden Gray of Solana Beach, California, orchestrated the offense with 12 points and nine assists.

Despite being outrebounded 43-35, the Celtics won the turnover battle decisively, forcing 19 Wisconsin miscues while committing only 12. Maine converted those turnovers into key transition opportunities, particularly in the final frame. The Celtics also protected the rim effectively, registering seven blocks to Wisconsin’s three, with center Hason Ward contributing three rejections.

The win improved Maine’s record to 15-9 across all competitions, solidifying its position near the top of the league standings. The loss dropped Wisconsin to 8-16. The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at the same venue on Friday night.

Statistically, both teams operated with elite offensive efficiency. Maine scored 114 points on 94 possessions for an offensive rating of 121.1, while Wisconsin’s 106 points on 90 possessions yielded a rating of 117.4. The Celtics shot 16 for 36 from three-point range, while the Herd connected on 12 of 27 attempts from beyond the arc.

The victory extended Maine’s winning streak to five games, continuing its strong start to the new year. Wisconsin, which had won two of its last three coming into the game, saw its hopes for a streak snapped by the Celtics’ late-game surge.
