Maine vs. Wisconsin

Preview: Hot Celtics Visit Struggling Herd in G League Showdown

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Interstat) — The surging Maine Celtics, winners of four straight, will look to extend their streak against the struggling Wisconsin Herd when the G League teams meet Wednesday night at Oshkosh Arena.

Maine (14-9) arrives as one of the league’s hottest teams, having won seven of its last nine games. Its most recent victory was a 107-102 home win over the Salt Lake City Stars on Jan. 9, led by Hayden Gray’s 13 points and 10 assists.

The Celtics are powered by center Amari Williams, who is in the midst of a dominant stretch. Over his last five games, Williams is averaging 23.2 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.6 blocks, including a 33-point, 16-rebound performance in an overtime win over Capital City on Jan. 3.

Wisconsin (8-15), meanwhile, seeks consistency after snapping a two-game skid with a 109-95 road win at Grand Rapids on Sunday. The Herd’s offense runs through forward Pete Nance, who erupted for a season-high 42 points in that victory. Nance has been a bright spot, averaging 21.0 points and 8.2 rebounds over his last six contests.

The teams represent opposite ends of the standings, with Maine firmly in the playoff picture and Wisconsin near the bottom. The Celtics’ success has been built on recent offensive efficiency, scoring at least 107 points in each game during their four-game win streak.

Wednesday’s matchup will be the first of a quick two-game set between the clubs, with a rematch scheduled in Oshkosh on Friday. For the Herd, this homestand presents a critical opportunity to gain ground. For the Celtics, it’s a chance to solidify their position and continue riding the hot hand of Williams.

The game tips off at 7 p.m. CST.
