Austin vs. Salt Lake City

Top G League Clash Set as Stars Host Spurs

SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — A high-stakes G League matchup is set for Tuesday when the Salt Lake City Stars, boasting one of the league’s best records, host the surging Austin Spurs at Bruin Arena.

The Stars (17-5) enter as the Western Conference leaders but are looking to rebound from back-to-back road losses at Maine last week. The Austin Spurs (15-6), winners of two straight, aim to continue their climb and close the gap in the standings.

Salt Lake City’s offense, one of the most potent in the league, will lean on forward John Tonje. He is coming off a dominant 27-point, 12-rebound performance in Friday’s loss and has scored 25 or more points in four of his last seven games, including a 34-point outburst in a win over Rip City on Jan. 3.

Austin counters with guard Trey McGowens, who is fresh from a season-high 23 points, seven rebounds and two assists in Saturday’s narrow 107-106 victory over South Bay. McGowens’ scoring punch will be vital against a high-powered Stars attack.

The Spurs have shown resilience, edging South Bay in their last outing behind McGowens and a strong all-around game from Harrison Ingram, who pulled down 18 rebounds. Salt Lake City, despite its recent skid, has been nearly unbeatable at home, with a dominant stretch in December that featured multiple wins with 140 or more points scored.

This game is the first of a quick two-game set between the teams, who will meet again at Bruin Arena on Thursday. It presents a key test for Austin’s defense and a chance for Salt Lake City to reassert its home-court dominance.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Tuesday.
