South Bay vs. Austin
LEANDER, Texas (Interstat) — The South Bay Lakers and Austin Spurs will meet for the second consecutive night Saturday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, looking to break a deadlock in a key Western Conference G League matchup.
The Spurs (13-6) enter with the superior record, but have lost three of their last four games, including a 112-105 home loss to Santa Cruz on Jan. 2. The Lakers (11-8) have won four of their last five, most recently defeating Memphis 113-101 on Tuesday.
South Bay guard Kobe Bufkin is in the midst of a dominant stretch, averaging 27.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists over his last seven games. He is coming off a near triple-double with 27 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the win over Memphis.
Austin will counter with forward David Jones, who has been a consistent force. He is averaging 28.4 points and 9.2 rebounds over his last five contests, including a 33-point, 16-rebound performance in the loss to Santa Cruz.
The teams played Friday night, with the result unavailable for this preview. Saturday’s contest will offer a quick adjustment test for both clubs.
The Spurs hold a slight edge in the standings, but the Lakers’ recent form, spearheaded by Bufkin’s explosive play, sets the stage for a competitive conference clash. Austin will look to leverage home court advantage to snap its recent skid, while South Bay aims to build momentum on the road.
Following Saturday’s game, the Spurs begin a four-game road trip Tuesday in Salt Lake City. The Lakers return home to host San Diego on Jan. 14.
