Cleveland vs. Texas
FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — In a game defined by a chaotic final minute of regulation, the Texas Legends outlasted the Cleveland Charge 123-120 in overtime in a G League contest Friday night at Dr Pepper Arena.
The game turned on a frenetic sequence in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter. With the score tied at 116, Cleveland’s Luke Travers was fouled with four seconds remaining. He made the first free throw to give the Charge a one-point lead but missed the second. Texas’ Dalano Banton secured the defensive rebound and was fouled on the ensuing play with one second left, sending him to the line for three free throws.
Banton, who finished as a key performer for the Legends, calmly sank all three attempts, putting Texas ahead 119-117. After a Cleveland timeout, the Charge inbounded to Travers, whose pass was stolen by Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. His half-court heave missed, sending the game to overtime tied at 119.
The extra period was a defensive struggle, with both teams fatigued from the late-game drama. Texas scored the first four points, including a critical 3-pointer from Sheldon Edwards assisted by Jordan Hall, to take a 122-119 lead. Cleveland’s Tristan Enaruna answered with a layup to cut the deficit to one, but Banton drew another foul and made one of two free throws with 1:35 left for the final margin of 123-120. The Charge had several opportunities to tie but came up empty on their final possessions.
The wild finish overshadowed a game of significant momentum swings. Cleveland raced to an early lead, scoring 34 points in the first quarter and leading by as many as 14. The Charge maintained a 67-54 advantage at halftime, fueled by efficient offense. Texas chipped away in the third, holding Cleveland to just 21 points, and completed the comeback with a 35-point fourth quarter to force the extra session.
Banton’s composure at the line in the final second of regulation was the defining moment. His three makes capped a Texas rally from a double-digit deficit and ultimately secured the victory. Edwards and Robinson-Earl also provided crucial plays for the Legends in the comeback.
For Cleveland, the loss wasted a strong start and a 33-point second quarter. The Charge were led by Zeke Mayo and Enaruna, who were among the team’s key performers, but struggled to execute in the final minute of regulation and throughout overtime.
With the win, Texas improved its season record to 10-13 across all competitions. Cleveland fell to 12-9. The two teams are scheduled to meet again at Dr Pepper Arena on Sunday.
