Capital City vs. Maine
Preview: Capital City Go-Go at Maine Celtics
PORTLAND, Maine (Interstat) — The Maine Celtics, holding a narrow edge in the standings, host the Capital City Go-Go in a G League matchup Saturday at the Portland Exposition Building.
Maine (11-9) enters on a one-game winning streak after a 108-100 victory over Noblesville on Friday. Capital City (9-9) arrives following a dominant 139-90 road win at Westchester on Thursday.
The season series is split 1-1, with each team winning on the other’s home court in December. The Go-Go routed the Celtics 111-77 on Dec. 12, but Maine claimed a 112-101 victory in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 10.
A key matchup will feature Capital City guard Keshon Gilbert, coming off a historic triple-double performance with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Westchester, against Maine’s high-scoring wing Ron Harper. Harper is averaging 28.3 points over his last four games, including a 36-point outing in a one-point loss to Noblesville on Dec. 31.
The Go-Go have shown explosive potential, averaging 126.3 points in their last three wins, but have struggled with consistency. The Celtics have weathered a recent rough patch, going 2-5 in a seven-game stretch before Friday’s win, often relying on Harper’s offensive outbursts.
According to Interstat’s ELO system, Maine is projected with a 68.60 percent probability to win Saturday’s contest.
For Capital City, forward Leaky Black (13 points, 13 rebounds vs. Westchester) and center Skal Labissiere (22 points, 7 rebounds) provide crucial support for Gilbert. Maine will look to leverage its home court and recent momentum to solidify its position above .500.
The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST.
