Rip City vs. Stockton
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Fueled by a dominant second-quarter surge and a game-high 27 points from Dexter Dennis, the Stockton Kings defeated the Rip City Remix 120-101 in a G League contest Sunday at Stockton Arena.
The game turned decisively in the second period. After trailing 31-20 at the end of the first quarter, the Kings unleashed a 38-point offensive explosion while holding Rip City to just 22 points. The run flipped an 11-point deficit into an 58-53 halftime lead for Stockton, a 27-point swing in the frame. The Kings never relinquished control, extending their lead throughout the second half.
Dennis, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, led all scorers and added seven rebounds and four assists for Stockton. His backcourt mate, Jon Elmore, provided 12 points and six assists, while Jaylin Williams recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. K.J. Jones also chipped in 17 points off the bench.
For Rip City, Dillon Jones led the way with 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Center Andrew Carr posted an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double, and point guard Sean Pedulla, from Edmond, Oklahoma, finished with 17 points and eight assists.
The Kings’ victory avenged a 118-112 home loss to the Remix just 24 hours earlier on Saturday. The teams have now split their four meetings this season.
Statistically, Stockton’s efficiency was the story. The Kings shot 51.8% from the field (44 of 85) and 40.6% from three-point range (13 of 32), while converting 9 of 10 free throws. Rip City struggled from deep, making only 10 of 35 three-point attempts (28.6%) and 9 of 15 from the foul line. Stockton also won the rebounding battle 47-44.
The win improved Stockton’s season record to 11-7, while Rip City fell to 10-8.
The most important part of the game was Stockton’s overwhelming second-quarter response. After being outplayed in the opening period, the Kings seized momentum with a combination of stifling defense and high-percentage offense, a stretch from which the Remix never recovered. The quarter established a cushion that allowed Stockton to manage the game comfortably through the final two periods.
Rip City returns home to face Osceola on Wednesday. Stockton’s next game is at home against Wisconsin on Jan. 3.
