San Diego vs. South Bay

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Interstat) — The South Bay Lakers used a dominant fourth-quarter performance to overcome a second-half deficit and defeat the San Diego Clippers 127-118 in a G League game Tuesday night at the UCLA Health Training Center.

The game turned decisively in the final period after the Clippers had seized momentum in the third quarter. San Diego, which trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, outscored South Bay 24-18 in the third to take an 83-85 lead entering the fourth. The rally was fueled by Patrick Baldwin Jr., who scored 11 of his team-high points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer that gave the Clippers their first lead since the opening minutes and forced a Lakers timeout.

The Lakers responded with an immediate and overwhelming run to start the fourth, decisively shifting the game’s trajectory. They opened the final period on a 12-2 surge, reclaiming a 97-87 advantage with 10:20 remaining. Chris Manon was instrumental during the stretch, contributing a driving layup and a steal that led to an Adou Thiero tip-in dunk, which prompted a San Diego timeout.

South Bay’s offense continued to fire, particularly from beyond the arc, to keep the Clippers at bay. After San Diego closed the gap to 106-109 on a Taylor Funk 3-pointer with 5:57 left, the Lakers answered with a Kobe Bufkin 3-pointer and a Dalton Knecht dunk on consecutive possessions to rebuild an eight-point cushion.

The most critical sequence came in the final minute with South Bay leading 123-118. After a RayJ Dennis 3-pointer for San Diego, the Lakers executed perfectly out of a timeout. With 10 seconds remaining, Drew Timme sealed the victory with a decisive dunk off an assist from Manon, pushing the lead back to nine points and effectively ending the contest.

South Bay’s 42-point fourth quarter was the highest-scoring period of the game for either team and proved insurmountable for San Diego, which scored 35 in the final frame but could not match the Lakers’ efficiency down the stretch.

The Lakers improved their season record to 7-7, while the Clippers fell to 9-5. The teams split a two-game series in San Diego in late November, making this the Lakers’ first win in the season series.

South Bay established early control, leading 35-27 after a fast-paced first quarter and maintaining a 67-59 advantage at halftime. The Clippers’ third-quarter push set the stage for the dramatic finish, but the Lakers’ closing burst ensured the home victory.

The game was played without available shooting percentages for either team.
