Memphis vs. Osceola
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Interstat) — In a wild G League shootout that featured 28 lead changes and 18 ties, the Memphis Hustle edged the Osceola Magic 125-122 on Tuesday night at Silver Spurs Arena, sweeping a back-to-back set against their conference rivals.
The game, a rematch of Memphis’s 121-119 victory on Sunday, was a back-and-forth affair from the opening tip. Memphis raced to an early lead behind a blistering first-quarter offensive display, pouring in 42 points. Charlie Brown Jr. and DeJon Jarreau set the tone, combining for early three-pointers and defensive plays. However, Osceola responded with a 38-point second quarter, fueled by Orlando Robinson’s interior presence and timely outside shooting, to take a 68-66 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw the Magic extend their advantage to as many as eight points, but the Hustle chipped away, entering the final period trailing by just two. The fourth quarter evolved into a tense possession-by-possession battle, with neither team leading by more than four points in the final six minutes.
The most critical sequence unfolded in the final 12 seconds. With Memphis leading 121-119, Osceola’s Jamal Cain grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed layup and hit a 22-foot jumper to tie the game. Memphis called timeout and executed perfectly, drawing a foul on Alex Morales. Charlie Brown Jr. calmly sank both free throws to put the Hustle back ahead with 10 seconds remaining.
After an Osceola timeout, Lester Quinones connected on a deep three-pointer with 2 seconds left, giving the Magic a 122-121 lead and seemingly snatching victory. Memphis immediately called its final timeout. On the ensuing inbounds play, the Hustle again drew a foul, this time on Phillip Wheeler with 4 seconds on the clock. Brown returned to the line and again made both free throws, restoring a one-point Memphis lead.
Osceola’s last chance ended when Quinones was called for an offensive foul on the inbound pass, turning the ball over. Nate Hinton was then fouled and made two more free throws for the final margin. A last-ditch heave by Osceola was off target.
DeJon Jarreau led Memphis with a stat-stuffing performance of 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in just 25 minutes, continuing his strong recent play. Charlie Brown Jr. scored a game-high 28 points, including the four decisive free throws in the final seconds. Tyler Burton added 20 points, and Evan Gilyard contributed 20 points off the bench.
Osceola was led by a balanced attack. Orlando Robinson posted 20 points and nine rebounds, while Jamal Cain had 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Alex Morales added 18 points and eight rebounds, and Phillip Wheeler scored 16.
The win improved Memphis to 7-7 on the season, while Osceola fell to 8-6. The Hustle have now won three straight games, all against the Magic. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Osceola had entered the game with an 80.40 percent probability to win.
Memphis next hosts the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Dec. 27. Osceola travels to face the Santa Cruz Warriors on the same date.
