Delaware vs. Capital City
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal from their meeting just 48 hours prior, the Delaware Blue Coats rode a dominant second-quarter surge to a 120-110 victory over the Capital City Go-Go in a G League contest Tuesday afternoon at CareFirst Arena.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Delaware and avenged a 20-point loss on the same floor Sunday. The Blue Coats improved to 4-10, while Capital City fell to 6-8.
The most critical phase of the game was a decisive second quarter that completely shifted momentum. After trailing 34-27 following a high-scoring first period, the Blue Coats locked down defensively and unleashed a 39-point offensive outburst while holding the Go-Go to just 14 points. That 25-point swing turned a seven-point deficit into an 18-point halftime lead for Delaware at 66-48.
Capital City, which had shot efficiently in the opening quarter, went cold and was plagued by turnovers during the Blue Coats’ run. Delaware capitalized with a series of transition opportunities and forced several shot-clock violations, methodically building a lead that would prove insurmountable despite a late Capital City rally.
The Go-Go chipped away in the second half, closing the gap to single digits multiple times in the fourth quarter behind a 36-point final period. However, the Blue Coats consistently answered each Capital City push with timely baskets to maintain control. A technical foul on Delaware’s Adem Bona with 1:38 remaining allowed Capital City to close to 105-104, but Justin Edwards responded with a pull-up jumper and a converted and-one opportunity on the ensuing possession to stretch the lead back to six.
Edwards was instrumental in the victory, providing key scoring throughout, particularly during the pivotal second-quarter run where his activity on both ends fueled the turnaround. His back-to-back steals and layups midway through the period exemplified the Blue Coats’ heightened defensive intensity.
Capital City was led by a strong interior performance from center Skal Labissiere, who was effective with his scoring and rebounding, and guard A.J. Johnson, who attacked consistently in the second half. The Go-Go’s efforts to rally were hampered by 21 turnovers, which Delaware converted into 31 points.
The Blue Coats showcased better ball movement, finishing with 28 assists on their 46 made field goals, and outscored Capital City 58-42 in the paint. Delaware also managed the game well from the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the victory.
The game was a tale of contrasting quarters. Capital City’s early 34-point first quarter showcased its offensive capability, but Delaware’s overwhelming response in the second established a cushion that weathered every subsequent Go-Go surge. The win provides a significant momentum shift for the Blue Coats as they head into the holiday break.
