Delaware vs. Capital City

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Capital City Go-Go seized control with a dominant first-half offensive display and never looked back, defeating the Delaware Blue Coats 127-107 in a G League game Sunday at CareFirst Arena.

The Go-Go, improving to 6-7, set the tone immediately, erupting for 37 points in the opening quarter. They extended their lead with a 34-point second quarter, entering halftime with a commanding 71-57 advantage. The Blue Coats, who fell to 3-10, could not cut the deficit below double digits in the second half despite scoring 28 points in the third quarter. Capital City closed the game with a 30-point fourth quarter to secure the 20-point victory.

The most important part of the game was Capital City’s explosive and efficient start, which built an insurmountable lead. The Go-Go’s 71-point first half, fueled by a 37-point opening quarter, established a pace and margin that Delaware could not overcome. This early surge was a collective effort, with the Go-Go’s depth and ball movement overwhelming the Blue Coats from the opening tip.

Capital City’s offense was led by a balanced scoring attack. A.J. Johnson, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, filled the stat sheet with 19 points and nine assists. Center Skal Labissiere, listed at 6-foot-11 from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, added 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Sharife Cooper contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while both Leaky Black and Kadary Richmond scored 14 points. Damari Monsanto provided a spark off the bench with 14 points, all in the second half, including four three-pointers.

For Delaware, Kennedy Chandler led the way with a game-high effort, consistently attacking the basket. His playmaking kept the Blue Coats within striking distance at times, but the team could not string together enough stops to seriously threaten the Go-Go’s lead. DeAndre Williams and Malcolm Hill provided secondary scoring, but the Blue Coats’ defense had no answer for Capital City’s multifaceted offense, particularly in the decisive first half.

The game’s initial sequence foreshadowed the night. After a Delaware miss on the opening possession, Labissiere hit a three-pointer on Capital City’s first trip, and the Go-Go quickly built a 12-5 lead within the first three minutes. While Delaware briefly tied the game at 17-17, Capital City responded with a 16-2 run, capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Chris Mantis, to take a 33-19 lead late in the first quarter. The Blue Coats never recovered from that burst.

The teams will meet again in a rematch at Capital City on Tuesday. According to Interstat’s ELO system, the Go-Go were projected with an 80.80 percent probability to win Sunday’s contest.
