South Bay vs. Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Stockton Kings used a dominant first half to build a substantial lead and then held off a furious second-half rally by the South Bay Lakers to secure a 110-98 victory in a G League matchup on Wednesday night at Stockton Arena.

The Kings, improving to 8-4, seized control early with a 57-point first half, fueled by efficient ball movement and a strong inside presence. They led 26-19 after the opening quarter and extended their advantage by outscoring the Lakers 31-17 in the second period. South Bay struggled to find offensive consistency in the half, committing numerous turnovers against an active Stockton defense.

The game’s momentum shifted dramatically after halftime. The South Bay Lakers, now 6-6, emerged with renewed energy, nearly erasing the large deficit with a 27-point third quarter. The rally continued into the final period, where the Lakers scored 35 points, repeatedly cutting the Stockton lead to single digits behind a barrage of three-pointers and aggressive drives to the basket.

However, each time South Bay threatened, the Kings had an answer. Key baskets from DaQuan Jeffries and timely free throws in the final minutes allowed Stockton to maintain its composure and close out the win. The Kings’ ability to withstand the prolonged rally proved to be the decisive factor, as they never relinquished the lead they built in the opening quarters.

The most important part of the game was Stockton’s early establishment of a commanding lead, which provided a crucial cushion that ultimately proved insurmountable despite South Bay’s significant second-half push. The Kings’ first-half execution, particularly their 31-point second quarter, created a 20-point halftime gap that forced the Lakers into a relentless uphill battle for the remainder of the contest.

Stockton’s balanced attack and defensive pressure in the opening half set the tone, while their poise in responding to South Bay’s comeback attempts in the fourth quarter sealed the victory. The win marks Stockton’s second consecutive triumph over South Bay, following a 112-99 decision on Tuesday.

South Bay will look to rebound when they host Rip City on Saturday. Stockton travels to face Rip City on Monday.
