South Bay vs. Stockton
Preview: South Bay Lakers at Stockton Kings
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — Two of the G League’s hottest teams will meet Wednesday when the South Bay Lakers visit the Stockton Kings at Stockton Arena.
Both teams enter the contest with identical 6-4 records, adding stakes to an early-season Western Conference matchup. The game is the second of a quick back-to-back set between the clubs after they met Tuesday.
South Bay arrives riding high after a 141-130 road victory over Rip City on Sunday. Guard Kobe Bufkin led the charge with a season-high 42 points, adding six rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes. Bufkin has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 28.7 points over his last three games. He will be supported by guard R.J. Davis, who had 23 points and seven assists Sunday, and center Kylor Kelley, who posted a double-double.
Stockton looks to rebound from a 132-118 home loss to Salt Lake City last Thursday. In that defeat, guard Jameer Nelson Jr. continued his strong play with 22 points, five rebounds, eight assists and two blocks. Nelson has been a dynamic scorer and facilitator for the Kings, scoring 20 or more points in six of his last eight appearances, including a 34-point outing against Valley on Nov. 19.
The Kings have shown a potent offense, averaging over 123 points in their six wins, but have struggled defensively in losses, allowing an average of 138 points in their four defeats. South Bay has mirrored that high-scoring trend, surpassing 140 points twice this season.
The season series adds an immediate layer of rivalry, with Wednesday’s game serving as a quick turnaround and potential tiebreaker. The matchup between Bufkin’s scoring prowess and Nelson’s all-around play will be a key focal point.
Following Wednesday’s game, South Bay will host Rip City on Saturday. Stockton begins a two-game road trip at Rip City on Monday.
Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Stockton Arena.
