Austin vs. Mexico City
AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The surging Austin Spurs, owners of the G League’s best record, will face the Mexico City Capitanes on Wednesday night at Estadio Azteca in a rematch of a recent meeting.
Austin (9-1) enters on a four-game winning streak and has won nine of its last ten, showcasing one of the most potent offenses in the league. The Spurs are coming off a 110-96 victory over Oklahoma City on Nov. 30, where guard Jayden Nunn led the way with 32 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Nunn has been a consistent force, averaging 21.6 points over his last eight games, including a 31-point performance on Nov. 19.
Mexico City (5-6) looks to build momentum after a 118-113 road win over Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. Guard James Bouknight powered that victory with 28 points and eight rebounds. Bouknight has been a bright spot for the Capitanes, scoring 20 or more points in five of his last seven contests.
The teams just met on Monday, Dec. 8, in a game whose details were not provided, setting up a quick turnaround and a chance for adjustment in this two-game set.
Austin’s success has been fueled by balanced contributions. In their last win, Riley Minix added 23 points and nine rebounds, while Stanley Umude recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Spurs have scored 110 or more points in eight of their ten games this season.
Mexico City has shown resilience at home, winning three of its last four in Ciudad de México. Beyond Bouknight, the Capitanes will rely on playmaker Wade Taylor IV, who dished out 10 assists in the last outing, and center Isaih Moore, who added 15 points and six rebounds.
The game tips off at 8 p.m. local time Wednesday. Following this contest, Austin will travel to face the Texas Legends for a back-to-back series on Friday and Saturday. Mexico City’s next game is at Austin on Dec. 27, part of a three-game road trip.
