Maine vs. Capital City

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — A dominant third-quarter surge propelled the Maine Celtics to a 112-101 victory over the Capital City Go-Go in a G League matchup Wednesday afternoon at CareFirst Arena.

The game turned decisively in the third period after a tightly contested first half. Capital City, led by a strong first-half performance from center Skal Labissiere, took a 57-54 lead into halftime. The Go-Go extended that lead to 71-62 with 7:01 remaining in the third quarter following a 27-foot 3-pointer from Labissiere.

From that point, the Celtics seized control with a game-defining 25-2 run over the next six minutes. The surge was fueled by balanced scoring and stifling defense that held the Go-Go without a field goal for nearly five minutes. Maine’s bench unit, featuring Aaron Scott and Stefan Todorovic, provided critical energy. Scott hit two 3-pointers during the run, while Todorovic connected on three from beyond the arc, the last giving the Celtics an 87-73 lead with 1:09 left in the quarter. Maine outscored Capital City 34-16 in the period to take an 88-73 advantage into the final frame.

Capital City never recovered, unable to cut the deficit to single digits in the fourth quarter as Maine consistently answered every push. The Celtics improved to 9-3 with the win, while the Go-Go fell to 4-7.

Maine’s offense was led by point guard Max Shulga, who scored a team-high 25 points and added four assists. Keon Johnson, the Celtics’ top star, filled the stat sheet with 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Hason Ward contributed 14 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench.

For Capital City, Skal Labissiere was the standout performer, recording 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sharife Cooper facilitated the offense with 16 points and seven assists, and Jamir Watkins added 15 points and five rebounds in 38 minutes.

The two teams will meet again in a rematch Friday afternoon in Washington.
