South Bay vs. Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Stockton Kings used a dominant second quarter and a balanced offensive attack to pull away from the South Bay Lakers and secure a 112-99 victory in a G League contest Tuesday night at Stockton Arena.

The game turned decisively in the second period. After a tightly contested first quarter that ended with Stockton leading 29-27, the Kings outscored the Lakers 31-26 before halftime to build a 60-53 advantage. That surge provided a cushion the Lakers could not overcome, despite a third-quarter push that saw South Bay cut into the lead.

Stockton’s control was established inside, anchored by center Dylan Cardwell. The 6-foot-11 big man from Evans, Georgia, was a force on both ends, protecting the rim with multiple blocks and controlling the glass with a game-high 12 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. His presence disrupted South Bay’s driving lanes and fueled Stockton’s transition game.

The Kings’ backcourt duo of Devin Carter and Isaiah Stevens provided consistent scoring and playmaking. Carter, a shooting guard from Miami, led all scorers with a versatile 24-point performance, while Stevens orchestrated the offense efficiently, dishing out a game-high 10 assists to go with his 18 points. Their ability to penetrate and find open teammates kept the Lakers’ defense off balance throughout the night.

South Bay, which fell to 6-5 with the loss, was led by Anton Watson’s 21 points and nine rebounds. Kobe Bufkin added 19 points and six assists, and R.J. Davis chipped in 18 points. The Lakers stayed within striking distance for three quarters, trailing just 84-77 heading into the final period, but a cold shooting stretch early in the fourth allowed Stockton to extend its lead.

The Kings opened the final quarter with a 10-2 run, pushing their advantage to 94-79 and effectively sealing the game. South Bay never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way, as Stockton’s defense tightened and the Lakers managed only 15 points in the quarter on 31% shooting from the field.

Stockton improved its season record to 7-4 with the win. The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch Wednesday night at the same venue.

The most critical segment of the game was Stockton’s second-quarter surge, which established a lead they would not relinquish. This period was defined by their defensive intensity, led by Cardwell’s rim protection, which generated stops and ignited their offense. The Kings capitalized on South Bay turnovers and missed shots to build a multi-possession lead that forced the Lakers to play from behind for the entire second half, ultimately wearing down their comeback attempts.
