Oklahoma City vs. Austin
LEANDER, Texas (Interstat) — The Austin Spurs used a dominant first quarter and held off a late charge from the Oklahoma City Blue to secure a 116-110 victory in a G League matchup Friday night at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
The Spurs, improving their league-best record to 8-1, exploded for 37 points in the opening period, establishing a 19-point lead that the Blue spent the rest of the game trying to overcome. Oklahoma City fell to an even 4-4 with the loss.
Austin’s offense was firing on all cylinders from the start, with center Micah Potter and guard Kyle Mangas leading the early charge. The Spurs’ ball movement was crisp, resulting in a series of open looks and a commanding early advantage.
Oklahoma City chipped away at the deficit throughout the second and third quarters, outscoring Austin 59-56 over that stretch. The Blue’s offense found its rhythm, particularly from beyond the arc, to close the gap.
The fourth quarter became a back-and-forth affair. The Blue, led by a determined effort from Zack Austin, managed to tie the game late. However, the Spurs responded with key plays in the final minute to seal the win. After a Jayden Nunn free throw put Austin up by two, Riley Minix stole an Oklahoma City inbound pass and found Stanley Umude for a clinching dunk with 15 seconds remaining.
The Spurs’ victory was a testament to their depth, with several players contributing significant performances. The team’s balanced attack and strong start proved too much for an Oklahoma City squad that fought valiantly until the final buzzer.
The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch in Austin on Sunday.
