Rio Grande Valley vs. Memphis

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers outlasted the Memphis Hustle 130-125 on Wednesday afternoon at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The game was a tale of explosive quarters and resilient responses. The Vipers seized control early, erupting for 39 points in the second quarter to establish a commanding 66-62 halftime lead after outscoring the Hustle by 27 points in the opening period. Rio Grande Valley maintained its offensive firepower after the break, adding 35 more points in the third quarter to take a 101-88 advantage into the final frame.

Memphis refused to capitulate, mounting a furious comeback in the fourth quarter by pouring in 37 points. The Hustle whittled the deficit down to a single possession in the final minute, but the Vipers managed to secure the victory from the free-throw line to close out the game.

The win elevated Rio Grande Valley to a .500 record at 2-2 on the young season, while Memphis fell to 3-4.

The contest was characterized by its fast pace and offensive execution, ultimately exceeding the pregame projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a final score of 120-100 in favor of the Vipers. The same service’s ELO system, however, had given the Hustle a slight 50.70 percent probability to win.

The Vipers’ scoring was distributed evenly across the game, demonstrating a consistent offensive threat that the Hustle struggled to contain for long stretches. Memphis’s comeback attempt, fueled by its 42-point second quarter and 37-point fourth, showcased its own potent scoring ability but ultimately fell short against the Vipers’ early-established cushion.

The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch in Memphis on Friday. The Vipers will then embark on a two-game road series against Austin, while the Hustle will travel to face Oklahoma City next Tuesday.
