Birmingham vs. Austin
LEANDER, Texas (Interstat) — The Austin Spurs used a pair of explosive offensive quarters to overpower the Birmingham Squadron, securing a 110-97 victory in a G League matchup Sunday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
The win completes a two-game season-opening sweep for the Spurs over the Squadron, following a 101-89 result in Birmingham on Friday. Austin improved to 2-0, while Birmingham fell to 0-2.
The game was defined by two dominant stretches from the home team. The Spurs erupted for 34 points in the opening quarter, establishing an early lead they would not relinquish. After a quieter second period where they were outscored 24-17, Austin delivered a decisive blow in the third quarter, pouring in 37 points to pull away for good.
A balanced scoring attack propelled the Spurs. Kyle Mangas, a 6-foot-4 point guard, orchestrated the offense effectively, while 6-foot-10 center James Banks provided a strong interior presence. The efforts of Riley Minix, Stanley Umude and Harrison Ingram further highlighted the team’s depth, as the Spurs consistently found open shooters and capitalized on Birmingham’s mistakes.
The Squadron, led by Chase Hunter, struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm outside of the second quarter. They were unable to mount a sustained challenge after Austin’s third-quarter surge, despite scoring 25 points in the period themselves.
The Spurs’ ball movement and defensive pressure were key factors, generating turnovers and leading to transition opportunities. The win reinforces their strong start to the season, while the Squadron continue to search for their first victory.
According to Interstat’s ELO system, Austin was the heavy favorite entering the contest with a 90.40 percent probability to win.
Birmingham’s next game is on the road against the Oklahoma City Blue on Tuesday. Austin travels to face the Memphis Hustle next Saturday.
