Rip City vs. Santa Cruz
BONNY DOON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Rip City Remix opened their inaugural G League season with a statement victory, defeating the Santa Cruz Warriors 120-107 on Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Led by a dominant double-double from Dillon Jones, the Remix seized control early with a blistering 40-point first quarter and never looked back, handing the Warriors a loss in their season opener despite being heavy underdogs according to pregame projections.
Jones, a 6-foot-5 point guard, was the engine for Rip City, stuffing the stat sheet with 19 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in 36 minutes of action. His all-around performance set the tone for an efficient night from the visitors.
Blake Hinson provided a significant scoring punch for the Remix, pouring in 24 points, while backcourt mate Javonte Cooke added 20 points and five rebounds. Sean Pedulla also chipped in 17 points off the bench.
The Warriors were led by L.J. Cryer, who scored a game-high 25 points and dished out seven assists. Marques Bolden recorded 15 points and eight rebounds, and Jack Clark scored 17 points. Trey Galloway also finished with 15 points for Santa Cruz.
The game was decided in the opening period, where the Remix exploded for 40 points, capitalizing on early Warriors turnovers and establishing a 16-point lead they would not relinquish. Rip City extended its lead in the second quarter, taking a 70-48 advantage into halftime.
Santa Cruz found more rhythm offensively after the break, outscoring Rip City in both the third and fourth quarters, but the massive first-half deficit proved too large to overcome. The Warriors could never cut the lead to single digits in the second half.
With the win, Rip City starts its season 1-0. Santa Cruz begins 0-1. The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at the same venue on Saturday night.
According to Interstat’s ELO system, Santa Cruz had been projected with an 81.30 percent probability to win the contest.
