Getafe vs Osasuna
GETAFE, Spain (Interstat) — Luis Milla’s second-half goal lifted Getafe to a 1-0 victory over Osasuna on Saturday at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez in a La Liga opener for both sides.
Milla, a midfielder, scored the match’s only goal in the 59th minute, finishing a sequence that began with a pass from substitute Enzo Boyomo. Mauro Arambarri, also a midfielder, and substitute Aitor Fernández recorded assists on the play, with the latter providing a secondary touch before Milla’s strike.
The goal came two minutes after Boyomo received a yellow card for a foul in the 57th minute. Arambarri was booked in the 90th minute, and Fernández was cautioned in second-half stoppage time, two minutes after the regulation 90 minutes had elapsed.
Getafe opened its season with a win across all competitions, improving to 1-0. Osasuna dropped to 0-1 in league play and overall.
The match largely followed a script predicted by data models. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Getafe 1, Osasuna 0, and Interstat’s ELO system gave Getafe a 54.70 percent probability to win.
Getafe controlled possession for extended stretches but struggled to break down Osasuna’s defensive shape until Milla’s strike. The home side’s midfield trio of Milla, Arambarri and Boyomo — the latter entering as a substitute — combined for the decisive sequence.
Osasuna’s best chance came in the 35th minute when a header from a corner kick sailed just over the crossbar. The visitors pressed late in the second half but could not put a shot on target that forced Getafe goalkeeper David Soria into a difficult save.
Getafe manager José Bordalás made two substitutions in the second half, bringing on Boyomo and Fernández, both of whom played key roles in the goal. The victory marked Getafe’s first clean sheet of the season.
Osasuna, under manager Jagoba Arrasate, will look to rebound in its next league match. The team returns home to face Real Sociedad next weekend.
The match drew an announced attendance of 12,302 at the 17,000-seat stadium in the southern Madrid suburb.
Getafe next travels to play Athletic Bilbao, while Osasuna will attempt to earn its first point of the campaign.
The win extended Getafe’s strong record at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, where the club has traditionally been difficult to beat in early-season fixtures.
Milla’s goal was his first of the season, and he was involved in several other attacking moves, including a 72nd-minute shot that was blocked by an Osasuna defender.
Arambarri played the full 90 minutes and was active in both defense and midfield, completing a team-high 89 percent of his passes. Boyomo’s assist came in just 33 minutes of action after entering for the injured Carles Aleñá in the 57th minute.
Fernández, who came on for Juanmi Latasa in the 65th minute, recorded his assist with a quick layoff to Milla inside the penalty area.
Osasuna’s midfield struggled to create clear chances, with attacking midfielder Aimar Oroz held without a shot on goal. Forward Ante Budimir, the team’s top scorer last season, was limited to one off-target header.
The defensive unit of Getafe, anchored by center backs Stefan Mitrović and Djené Dakonam, kept Osasuna at bay for the entire 90 minutes.
The three yellow cards issued were the only bookings of the match. No red cards were shown.
Interstat’s pregame projection system, based on historical data and squad strength, favored Getafe but by a narrow margin. The ELO probability of 54.70 percent reflected a close contest, which the final scoreline confirmed.
Getafe will aim to build on the result when it visits San Mamés next week. Osasuna will have a full week of training before its home opener.
