TOLUCA (Interstat) — Enner Valencia scored in the eighth minute Sunday to give Pachuca a 1-0 victory over Toluca in a Liga MX match at Estadio Nemesio Díez.

Valencia’s goal, assisted by midfielder Alek Álvarez, was the only score of the game. Substitute Sergio Rodríguez also recorded an assist. Pachuca goalkeeper and defense preserved the clean sheet.

Pachuca improved to 1-0 in league play and across all competitions. Toluca fell to 0-1 in both.

The match saw three yellow cards: Alán Bautista in the 41st minute, Álvarez in the 76th and Rodríguez in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time.

Pachuca’s win denied Toluca a result on its home field. The Diablos Rojos were unable to find an equalizer despite pressing late.
