SUMQAYIT, Azerbaijan (Interstat) — Genclerbirliyi Sumqayıt hosts Araz-Naxçıvan PFK on Saturday in a Premyer Liqa matchup that carries implications for both sides’ positioning in the Azerbaijani top flight.

The game is set for May 9 at a venue to be announced in Sumqayıt.

Genclerbirliyi Sumqayıt (5-6-7, 21 points) enters on the heels of a 2-1 loss at Kəpəz PFK on May 2. That defeat snapped a two-match winning streak in which the club defeated Qəbələ 1-0 on April 19 and İmişli FK 2-0 on April 25. Prior to that, Sumqayıt had lost four of five, including a 3-1 home loss to Neftçi PFK on April 5 and a 3-0 loss at Kəpəz on Feb. 27.

Araz-Naxçıvan PFK (4-4-10, 16 points) also lost its most recent fixture, falling 1-0 at İmişli FK on May 2. The result extended a difficult stretch for the visitors, who have dropped six of their last eight matches. Their only victory in that span came Feb. 15 (Interstat) — a 1-0 home win over Saturday’s opponent. Since then, Araz-Naxçıvan has managed just a draw at Qəbələ (1-1 on April 25) and a 2-1 win at Karvan on March 13. Heavy defeats include a 6-0 loss at Qarabağ Ağdam on March 8 and a 4-1 loss at Sabah FK on Feb. 8.

The head-to-head series is split over the two most recent meetings. On Feb. 15, Araz-Naxçıvan PFK won 1-0 at home. But in the prior encounter Nov. 2, 2025, Genclerbirliyi Sumqayıt earned a 3-2 home victory.
