SC Freiburg Hosts SC Braga in Europa League Showdown

FREIBURG, Germany (Interstat) — SC Freiburg will look to overturn recent history when they host SC Braga in a Europa League matchup Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Europa-Park Stadion.

The teams meet for the second time in eight days. Braga won the first leg 2-1 on April 30, taking a slight advantage into the return fixture. Braga’s victory came courtesy of goals in the second half, while Freiburg failed to build on an early equalizer.

Freiburg enters the match with mixed form. The German side has won three of its last five Europa League games, including a 3-0 victory over AD Ceuta FC on April 9. However, it has struggled in recent away matches, losing 1-0 to KRC Gent on March 12 and falling 1-0 to Lille on Jan. 29. Freiburg’s home form has been more reliable: it defeated FC Red Bull Salzburg 1-0 in December and FC Utrecht 2-0 in October, though it also played to a 0-0 draw against Viktoria Plzen in November.

Braga, meanwhile, has been stout defensively, allowing just one goal in its last three Europa League matches. The Portuguese side played to a 1-1 draw at Real Betis on April 8, then lost 2-0 at Ferencvarosi TC on March 12. Before that, Braga earned scoreless draws at Go Ahead Eagles (Jan. 29) and at home against Nottingham Forest (Jan. 22). Braga’s only Europa League defeat since October came against Gent, which beat them 4-3 on Nov. 6.

The head-to-head record favors Braga, who have won two of the last three meetings. Freiburg’s lone win in that span was a 2-0 victory in October 2025, though that result was later reversed in the return leg.

A statistical projection from Interstat’s game simulator gives Braga a 1-0 victory, suggesting another tight contest. Freiburg will need to break down a Braga defense that has kept clean sheets in four of its last five Europa League outings.

Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. local time. The winner advances to the round of 16.
