Freiburg II had shown resilience at home, but the draw extended their winless streak in the competition to three matches.

The match was the first of two scheduled meetings between the sides this season. Wolfsburg next faces Bayern Munich at home on May 9 before traveling to Saint Pauli on May 16. Freiburg II is set to visit Hamburger SV II on May 10 and then host RB Leipzig on May 16.
